Thrift shop finds 5/18/2013

I love pink!  Do you know that?   So much!  I'm essentially Elle woods in the right mood :3  And I nearly squealed when I found this gorgeous princess bustier at Plato's Closet!  Doesn't it look wonderful with my hot pink pencil skirt?  Answer:  Yes!  Yes, it does.

This next outfit is so chic but also sooo 60's/70's hippy.  And sexy!  Incredibly sexy!  I finally found the perfecttt high-waisted booty shorts.

And finally, this awesomeness where I look like a little rebel tomboy circa 1903...  Isn't it precious!?  100% thrifted and 100% OOAK style!

Gypsy Punk Summer Restyle

So today has been super productive and fulfilling in sort of an existential way, and I'm feeling really content about things.   I just scheduled classes for my first semester for my sophomore year, lots of philosophy.   So much brain candy!  Anddd I finally made some stuff happen when I was being really crafty and inventive.  Really excited.

VVV

Head scarves were my favorite, absolute favorite trend last year, but I've always had SUCH a hard time trying to pull it off.  I have a tiny head and absolutely the only things I could use were bandanas and this one childish tie dye scarf (Ala Limited Too) lying around my room from ten million years ago.   I didn't want to look like I was a 10-year old playing hippy for dress up, nor was I super into just rocking a boring old bandana.  I mean, honestly, there are just so many things I want to avoid while rocking the headscarf.  I don't want it to look like a headband or a hijab or a cowgirl bandana....  It's just not my personal preference...  But today!   I perfected it!   I had an old half of a cut-up Old Navy graphic tee-shirt lying around and I thought, hey, there's hardly any fabric here, maybe I should try to squeeze it around my little head.  And it worked!  This look is absolutely everything I could ask for: edgy yet feminine, artistic, bohemian, and not too pin-up-girl.  I don't really see the appeal of them pin-up look 100%.  It's nice but not my favorite type of retro get-up.

ALSO!

My favorite quirky little make-up trend EVER is the dots under the eyes!  Somehow both sophisticated and fun... and friendly.  It would work for any style and still be cute as hell.  Or hellish.  It would compliment a very punky very well.  Where did it even come from?   It seems very burlesque.  -Or victorian?  Don't mimes wear those?  Except they wear triangles?  Either way, it only increases my admiration for this little artistic touch to eye-makeup.  So simple yet so dramatic!!! *swoons*

Nailz

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, but I'm quite a nail stylist.  I'm thinking about starting my own manicurist business sometime soon just so I can make some money and do what a love, 'cause this is my art.

& Today I decided to do something even more arty (kinda dada inspired)

The colors in this pic really don't do justice to how cool they look in real life...   Very sparkly and eccentric, kooky and a lil bit glam.  I lovvvee them :)  They say "&3}"  and "awe".  I meant it as in "shock and awe", not as in "awe, that's too bad", justifiably.

Purple Pants

I finally decided to utilize my button/pin collection for one of the first times this year, and I haven't been so confident with an outfit I put together in a few!

What's awesome about this outfit, is that aside from the little accessories it's hella simple- I don't really have the most simple style because I like to express myself, or rather, over-express myself.  But I think in this particular case I could be myself without over-stating it.

I think in this modern culture people put a lot of emphasis on expressing their interests, and I don't think it's all that bad.  Pins are a kind of way to do that.  Here's to my supa kawaii panda & pony pins and my Ramones pins <3

^^My phone camera's pretty cool.  Isn't this really good detail on my purple shorts?  I bought them at Madewell this past winter, I think.  They're real quality.

Shiny Clothes & Pretty Weather & Unicorns & Rainbow & Happy

So, it is absolutely positively GORGEOUS outside, it's in the motherloving 70's today<333  And I'm finally wearing my favorite sexy thrifted shirt with my absolute PRIZE of a dress that I've been dying to wear for ages

The story behind this dress is not much of a story, just that I win at being thrify and I win at life.  There was an after-christmas sale, and Then on top of that I had just taken back a $30 hat, so the dress was majorly marked down twice from about $200, THEN on top of that it was half-price.  I ended up snatching it for under twenty bucks :) along with some uncomfortable designer socks (They were sheer, I thought they would be really epiccc but they weren't so much).  I have never been so happy with a purchase in my life.

The tee was 5 dollars at Platos Closet.  It has seductive looking lips and a really low vneck cut.  It's SOOOO hot.  I'm obsessed.

Safety Pin Necklace & Apologies

Hey, sorry for not being on in a while.  I've been going through a lot of crazy shit and I've been busy as hell :/  But!  I did just make this really cool avant-garde looking necklace...  And I wanted to share it with all of you!  I'm majorly inspired right now and hopefully I'll be posting a few outfits this week going with the sort of hippy-punk theme that I'm feeling pretty majorly b/c of this thrown together crafty-as-shizz necklace.

Sorry my complexion is looking particularly pubescent today (I'm 19, god damnit!)

Is anyone else feeling some steampunk potential here or am I completely wrong?

...

So, that was weird.

I honestly had no idea that my polyvore & blogspot were connected.
Did not mean to publish my sets. Sorry.

Nails nails nails

Hey guys, sorry for not posting in a while.  I've been wanting to post full-outfit pics but I feel weird asking my roommate to take pictures of me because she's not really much of a photographer and she already keeps telling me that I'm a narcissist.

Anyway, Here is a picture of my gaudy nails I just did up with jewel-stickers and shimmery nailpolish yesterday to kick off the latter half of my first week of my second semester of school :)

1/12/13, 1/13/13

I have these pretty darn cute pictures of me from my webcam yesterday :3

I wore this bindi I got from the bookstore earlier, which is mostly a fashion thing... but I also saw this really cool movie on india recently and I really liked it's description of the purpose of wearing the third eye in hindu culture-  to help you see what your eyes alone can not.  I also had some belly bindi on but took it off when I had to put a sweater on for the hookah bar.

Bragging

Got badgal lash mascara at Ulta today :)
Everyone was very nice and helpful...
Plus, I've coveted this mascara for so long!!!

1/8/13

So, after last night I realized that lookbook.nu is fucking stupid, because they flat-out deleted my only entry because it didn't show my feet (I cropped them out cause they I was only wearing mlp socks and I didn't want the fashion world to judge me for being a brony).  I have a friend who has only one foot, what if he decided that he was the dapperest mofo  on the planet and posted himself to lookbook?  That would be discrimination.  If they deleted his picture, I mean.  Okay, so I'm kidding.  But- fuck.  It's just such a small thing and they barely even notified me.  But I digress, it was  kind of a cheap half-assed post.  I used 200 orange translucent bubbles to cover up the fact that my photography & lighting was god-awful.  What I'm getting at here, is that I'm going to put more of my energy into this little slice of me-ness than futily throwing myself into the world of blonde girls with peter-pan collars and american apparel brogues.  This is my fashion blog.

(PS.  the quality of pictures on this entry is much better)

First of all, it's a gorgeous day.  Very sunny and bright, so that helped.  I really prided myself on picking out details here.  I've always really liked the multiple-bracelet thing since I was a punky highschooler -even though it had a reputation of only existing only so that cutters can cover their scars, it's still always been radass to me.  And the barrettes are nice, but better for the >year 5 age group when people don't actually have much hair.  I took them out after the pic 'cause they just wack everything up.

I love love these boots.  I got them at Valley Thrift in Cincinnati for only about $5, even if I did end up spending an extra $15 to get them repaired about a week ago by this funny Chinese guy.  And another detail:  The red ring.  You'll see that a lot.  I don't leave home without it.  Let's just say, that ring has been through a lot of experiences with me, and it's gotten very, very dirty.

Oh, the dress is from H&M and as cute as the layering is, it's out of necessity cause there's a snag in my dress right over the nipple.  It's not sexy.  At all. Yeah, that's my outfit.  Sorry about all of the doe-eyes that I've been making.  I guess I think I'm Zooey Deschannel or something.

1/7/13

I'm actually impressed at how this picture came out & I adore the bracelet.  However, the leggings are actually very glittery and shimmery.  I got them at H&M this summer  and was really taken back by them.  They're shocking!  But are moreso in real-life.

The detail of the leggings are obviously better in the second picture and those shoes are so so great!  I realize that the tennis shoes/ wedges combo is not really utilitarian but still, adore!  I wanted them for years and just found them at an after-christmas sale.  So great!

Perfection

Perfection

shameless.

Introduction/Hello!

Hi Everyone!
My name's Abby.

See this is me right here^.^

I'm a person, that should be evident, and I'm also a design and fashion obsessive and a student starting in journalism this year at my university.

I really don't think that is a very, erm, exhaustive description of me but it's all you really need to know for this blog (I don't tell you that I eat a lot of dried fruit, that my favorite shows are futurama, arrested development and firefly, that I'm superr perverted, or that I was an anarchist in high school... what do you need to know those things for?).  This is going to be the main hub for my fashion fixation!  I have a lookbook, and you might also catch me being all weird on tumblr, but if you want to fall victim to all of my narcissism & to my fabulous self-portraits this is the place!

if I'm going to blog about fashion, I might as well tell you about me and the relationship I have with fashion and design---
  • Punk Rock has a firm place in my heart.  I'm still angsty on the inside.  One of the biggest academic achievements, in my life (in my mind) was this presentation I made on punk rock senior year of high school.  Yes, I love Vivienne Westwood.  Yes, I am a poser and I don't care (X-Ray Spex).  No, don't let anyone tell you punk isn't about fashion. In a big way, punk is about the aesthetic of shock value and the statement that DIY ethos makes.
  • Since I was 10 years old, Harajuku style and decora has been my life-force.  I just got the book Fruits off of Amazon this past summer and it is one of my most valued possessions.
  • I think of myself as a free-spirit.  I've always loved bohemian style as it captures my soul.
  • The 60's and the 70's have a clear influence on my style.  I have infinite love for Mod fashion and design.  Of course, sometimes I can be a bit of a hippy, too.  The biggest design inspiration that has come to me via film was in Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange, the color, sex, and the surrealism of that movie captured me and excited me just as much as the flawless theological philosophy behind the book.
